New LP ‘In The Tongue’, the 30th unofficial Halfbeak LP, is as good a place as any to start for the uninitiated. Blankets of piano lines and rhythms, time-warped and desecrated, entice the listener into a candle-lit sound-world where musical ‘rules’ and tropes evaporate. The title is a nod to Erik Satie, who oft’ delighted in instructing his pianists to play ‘on the tongue’. Here we get to the meat of the matter.
